BEST SOLO DANCE PERFORMANCE 2023
less me softly my dear octopus
choreographer, performer: Zofia ŻWIRBLIŃSKA (PL)
With her iconographic solo „less me softly my dear octopus“ Zofia Zwirblinska highlights conflicts of female identity today. A figure transforms in the most surprising way, taking us through her dealing with expectations coming from religion, society and herself. The crystal clear choreography impresses with the force of an imagery, which is transmitted through a complexity of movement, facial expression, costume and music. This highly skilled choreography was fulfilled with her extraordinary stage presence from the beginning to the end of the performance.
BEST DUO DANCE PERFORMANCE 2023
REMANENCE
choreographer: Selina KOCH (D), Mira Rosa PLIKAT (D)
performer: Miriam RIECK (D), Mira Rosa PLIKAT (D)
In their duo „Remanence“ Mira Rosa Plikat and Miriam Reck ( choreographed by Selina Koch and Mira Rosa Plikat ) explore the theme of symbiosis in an act of radical reduction. In their process from embracing to splitting they communicate a deep internal awareness overcoming the limitation of sexual gender. The slowness of their motion allows us to observe the physicality of their interaction and creates the space for our imagination. They achieved not only an intriguing sculptural effect but created a multidimensional sensoric experience which was mesmerizing.
JURY SPECIAL PRIZE 2023
“wild card”, the special prize of the jury
Wildflower
choreographer, performer: ÁRVAY-VASS Léna (H)
In „Wildflower“ Léna Árvay-Vass blows us away with an outburst of energy whirling through the space like a storm. Her fiercely looking at us is hypnotizing. This powerful behavior of a female person keeps its intensity through the process Lena is presenting. The level of dancing technique she applies is splendid though nothing but a tool to communicate her message. She uses rhythm, space, movement and musicality organically, making us feel that wildness and tenderness are naturally complementary in the female being.
Special Prize of the jury for deep research
Letter from Virginia
choreographer, performer: Marta PIECZUL (PL)
In her solo „Letter from Virginia“ Marta Pieczul tries to capture the spirit of Virginia Woolf‘s personality and transfer it to her own psychological and physical imagination. She resigns from presenting biography in favor of exploring specific atmospheres of their writings. She created a rhythmical, etherical and poetic structure which allows us to freely observe connections between movement, words (through extensive text layers) and a partiture of memorable gestures. Marta‘s deep research and understanding of nuances of Virginia Woolf‘s life and creation exposed her sensitivity and her qualities as a performer, expressing fragility and strictness at the same time.
Special prize of the jury for sense of structure
The way
choreographer, performer: Maria LENCZEWSKA (PL)
Maria Lenczewska in her piece „ The way“ works with movement material in a structure playing with poses and gestures inspired by sculptures. Thereby she explores variations with surprising rhythmicity. At the same time she is struggling to break the repetitive pattern to free herself from the limitation of the structure leaving open if she will ever get there. Instead of being formalized by the structure she embodies it in a way that makes her personality shine through.
